It doesn't have to be just another Monday. As an "unemployed", you can now start your week, your way. Be sure to put Movie Mondays at the Trocadero on your schedule! Each week the Troc hosts a different film. $3 gets you in and goes towards a drink or snack.
So, basically, it's FREE! AMAZING, huh?!
This week's movie is Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. To see more details and find what other movies are coming up, visit the Troc online.
If you need a break from job searching and recession fears, think about volunteering. It's a great way to use your time, your brain and yourself during the looonnng days of unemployment.
Even a few hours a week or once a month can make a difference and lend a hand. Let's face it, we all talk about doing it at one point or another but always make excuses for not having the time. Well, now we have some time. Check out the sites below for ideas and inspiration!

Based on the last couple of posts, it looks like we, the Philly unemployed, have been spending our time eating and drinking. While that has been true of some days, we don't want to ignore the most important issue - job searching. Especially since that is what actually takes up most of our time right now. So, onto the important stuff…
Recession job searching. One word. Stressful!! But fear not. According to MSN.com, job seekers who are successful, even in these hard economic times, know there are opportunities out there. We hope they are right!
Here are a few tips from the experts on how to find them:
Take a closer look at industry data
Freshen up your skills
Try part-time or freelance work
Rev up your social networking
Think in terms of results
Interview role play
Polish your brand and market it
Find opportunity in your current position
Be realistic
Visit the Career section on MSN.com for all the details in this article. Good luck!
Finally, we can get to Happy Hour by 5 pm. Having no job will do that. However, we also have less $ to spend. So, now what? We've done some on-site research recently (we have the stories and the hangovers to prove it) and there are actually plenty of places in Philly that offer HH specials.
Every once in a while stop being a shut-in and get socializing! It doesn't only help your mental state but it's also great for networking. Professional or otherwise (wink, wink).
Yo Philly! Believe us, we feel your pain. Nine of us (8 girls, 1 guy) were laid off on the same day from the same place.
Although days are filled with frustrating job searches and bank accounts are a little sad, some of us are trying to look at the wine glass as being half full! Well, actually, our wine glasses are always full but you know what we mean. Anyway, Unemployed And The City is a place for Philadelphia to brainstorm, vent and inspire. Basically...unemployment survival in the city.
So, whether you have a great site for a job search (does that exist right now?), some interviewing insight (if you are lucky enough to even get one these days. ugh.) or a cheap place to head out or order in for dinner (there must be somewhere in Philly!), please share the wealth!! And good luck to all the job-challenged!!
